How Much Does a website cost? Our Guide to Website Costs from Get More Kudos

How much does a website cost is typically one of the first questions we are asked when someone gets in touch. On average, the cost of our websites – from design to launch – will range from £400 to £600, but the cost of a website depends on its size and functionality. Here we explain how much a website might cost for your business.

At Get More Kudos our pricing policy is very simple… We don’t have set charges for certain packages or numbers of pages. We just look at what is involved based on your brief and then let you know how much your website will cost and how long it will take us to design and develop. But here are some example prices to give you a better idea…

Additional Costs.

We don’t really have any additional charges or add-ons as such, but costs will apply for web hosting and domain names. If you already have your own domain name and website hosting we’ll happily use those but if not, we can provide them. On most new projects, we’ll include these within the price for the first 12 months but, other than that, we charge our fast and secure web hosting at just £5.99 per month or £60 annually. UK domain names cost around £10 per year.

If you want us to manage or market a website on your behalf then charges will apply for this service, but these charges will be agreed in advance.

What about Free Websites?

Well, we certainly don’t offer them but there are a number of choices online which do seem very appealing, especially to those starting out in business and with a limited budget. But please be careful, we’ve done a little market research and cannot see anyone who actually delivers ‘free’ websites…you’ll most likely be tied into a subscription which could prove very costly long term. Professional design and search engine optimisation are certainly not included so you’ll most likely have to build the site yourself and then pay a monthly subscription of between £10 – £20 per month, £120 – £240 per year.

Above all, the monthly newsletter ensures that EVERY client is kept right up-to-date with news and offers from the salon…including those who might not have seen all of the salon’s regular posts and exclusive offers on social media.

Choosing the right web designer can be a real headache, especially when many of them charge ridiculous fees whilst trying to baffle you with geekery. Here’s our simple guide to making sure you choose the right one.

Firstly, take a look at their portfolio and some of their recent projects. Do you like their style? Do their websites ALL have a similar look and feel or are they quite varied?

Take a really good look at the copy on their site. Is it well written with good spelling and grammar which makes sense or is it mostly marketing cliches? There’s a good chance that you will have to rely on your web designer to help with text for your website, so this is an important consideration.

Choose a web designer that asks all about you and your business. They need to know who you are, what you do and why people should use you. If not how else can they create a website that reflects your business and reaches the right audience?

Make sure you get a good understanding of their fees and how much the estimated cost will be. Many web designers offer ‘pricing packages’ so it is import to ask exactly what you get for your money, as they might try to increase the cost of the website with add-ons.

Are you going to want to maintain the website yourself? Ask them if they will develop the site so that it can easily be managed. You can have your site designed and developed on a platform like WordPress, which allows for this.

Ensure that the domain name is registered to YOU, even if your web designer purchases this on your behalf.

Make sure that any contract states that you own the copyright to the entire site (except for things like stock photos you may have purchased).

If you can, talk to some of their recent clients to see how well the process was. Did they meet deadlines, adhere to budgets and were they good to work with? You’ll have to enjoy working with them!

Update

Check for any software or plugin updates and download the latest versions. But make sure that you do a back up first!

Links

Check for broken links as pages might well have moved or had the URL changed. Neither search engines nor visitors like 404 errors!

Read

Take time to read over and proofread every page. It might take some time but it’ll be worth it, bad spelling and grammar can damage your credibility.

Mobile

Make sure your website is responsive and mobile-friendly. Ensure that your web pages look good and are easy to follow on mobile devices and tablets.

Following the steps above to spring clean your website will take time and effort but will certainly be worth it! Updating your software and plugins will make your site run much faster and the other simple steps will make your website much more appealing to both visitors and search engines alike.

Celebrating a Successful Launch What an exciting month for Get More Kudos!

February 2020 saw the successful launch of Get More Kudos, a new and forward-thinking website design company based in Buxton. We are a husband and wife team who are passionate about helping businesses reach a much wider audience through our website design and digital marketing services. We also aim to encourage support for other local independent businesses based in and around Buxton via our website and social media channels.

To celebrate the launch of Get More Kudos we’ve been running a promotion on our Facebook page to support small independents and this has proved incredibly successful …reaching almost 3,000 local Facebook users. We cannot wait to see which local business will win a lovely bouquet from The Spa Town Florist next week and who will be the lucky recipient of a gift voucher from Face Facts Beauty Salon.

February also saw Get More Kudos complete two fantastic new web design projects…

The first was for Face Facts; an award-winning beauty and body salon who have been providing professional beauty and body care to clients since 1985. The second project was for Alexa Mather – The Spa Town Florist; who offers a mobile service delivering beautiful wedding flowers, floral tributes and bespoke bouquets for special occasions throughout Buxton and the surrounding areas.

We’ve absolutely loved working on both of these projects and the feedback has been terrific.
